Bylaw No.2781 Zoning Review FAQs

What geographic areas did the zoning bylaw review include?

The zoning bylaw review included evaluation of all land use categories, permitted uses and regulations in all three electoral areas of the Comox Valley Regional District:

  • Baynes Sound – Denman/Hornby Islands (Electoral Area A)*
  • Lazo North (Electoral Area B)
  • Puntledge – Black Creek (Electoral Area C)
How does the zoning bylaw review affect me?

If you own, lease or rent property within one of the Comox Valley Regional District’s three electoral areas, the change in zoning bylaw affects what you are permitted to do on your land. In some cases the review expanded what is permitted, and in other cases it limited what is permitted.

Am I able to change the zoning of my property now that the review process is complete?

Zoning bylaw reviews are intended to capture broad interest rather than deal with property-specific requests or individual proposals. A rezoning on an individual property will continue to require an independent rezoning application under the Local Government Act, which includes agency and stakeholder circulation and a formal public consultation process.
